Hyderabad: A one-year-old infant of a Telugu-origin family died in the United States after reportedly falling from a moving vehicle in the city of Colton, California, on the evening of June 18, according to local media and police reports. The child’s identity was established by putting together local media reports and a GoFundMe page.
In a statement, the Colton police said: “On June 18, at approximately 8.53 pm (local time), Colton police officers responded to an unresponsive child near the intersection of South Mt. Vernon Avenue and Centerpointe Drive in Colton. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 1-year-old child had fallen from a moving vehicle.”
“Officers and emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” the police said.
Police were investigating how the infant came to fall from a moving vehicle. Authorities told local media that the child was travelling in the vehicle with a parent and another guardian when the incident occurred. It remained unclear whether a child safety seat was being used or not, or if a door or window was not properly secured.
The case was being investigated by the Colton police’s major accident investigation team and the detective division. No arrests have been made, and the identities of the child and family were not officially released.
However, local media reports mentioned the infant’s name in connection with the accident, and a GoFundMe page was also set up for the same infant to cover for funeral and memorial services. Those behind the GoFundMe page did not disclose their names or other details, and listed the infant’s name as the fundraiser’s organiser. The name of the infant is being withheld.
