Vijayawada: A total of 1,080 nominations were filed for 148 wards in four urban local bodies (ULBs) — Kadapa, Mydukur, Rajampet and Tirupati — by Saturday, following an extension of the nomination process by the State Election Commission.

During the two-day extended period on October 23 and 24, the Telugu Desam Party (TD) filed 482 nominations, the Jana Sena Party 113, the BJP 32 and the YSRC 298.

Independents filed 129 nominations.

The State Election Commission extended the process following the Supreme Court’s intervention on a petition filed by the YSRC, which alleged that its candidates had been prevented from filing nominations.

Election authorities will scrutinise the fresh nominations on October 25.

The withdrawal of nominations filed during the extended period will also be taken up on the same day.
