VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh has adopted a roadmap to strengthen inclusive education for children with special needs from the Anganwadi level to university education.

The roadmap emerged at the conclusion of a two-day roundtable on ‘Realising Inclusive Education from School to University’, jointly organised by Andhra Loyola College and the Sri Aurobindo Society with support from Malladi Drugs and Pharmaceuticals in Vijayawada.

Addressing the valedictory session on Thursday, Sundarapu Vijaya Sreekumar, MLA and chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Welfare Committee for Children With Special Needs (CWSN), said the establishment of 125 Autism Support Centres in government schools this year reflected the state’s commitment to inclusive education.

He called for coordinated efforts among the Women and Child Welfare, School Education, Higher Education, Collegiate Education and Health departments to ensure quality education for every child with special needs.

The roundtable recommended stronger collaboration among government departments, educational institutions, families, industry and civil society. It also stressed continuous capacity building for teachers and parents, strengthening Bhavita and resource centres with accessible technologies, and developing structured parent-support systems.

The valedictory session was addressed by Dr Simmi Mahajan, Aashna Kaur, Fr Dr N.A. Francis Xavier and Pawan Kumar. Representatives of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, UNICEF, Samagra Shiksha, the Women and Child Welfare Department, special schools and other stakeholders attended the programme.

APCRDA allots land for new Amaravati school

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has facilitated the establishment of a ₹25-crore school in Amaravati to provide quality education to students in the capital region.

The school will be set up by the Amaravati Educational and Cultural Academy (AECA) on a three-acre site allotted by APCRDA at Abbarajupalem village. Construction is expected to begin shortly.

The institution will be managed by the Chennai-based DAV management. The agreement was signed on Thursday, with APCRDA joint director (Estates) Zubin Roy handing over the documents to AECA representatives at the APCRDA headquarters.

Officials said a major portion of the project cost would be met through contributions from Amaravati farmers. The school is expected to generate more than 250 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Classes for the 2026-27 academic year have already commenced in a rented building at Thullur. The institution is expected to shift to its permanent campus at Abbarajupalem from the 2027-28 academic year after completion of the new building.

Officials said the project, expected to be completed within two years, would strengthen Amaravati’s educational infrastructure.
