Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod scripted sporting history in Aichi-Nagoya on Saturday, becoming the first Indian archer to win an individual recurve gold medal at the Asian Games.
The teenage sensation produced a clinical display under pressure to defeat South Korea’s Oh Yejin in the women’s individual recurve final.
The triumph confirmed Mohod as the first Indian woman to secure an individual recurve medal of any colour at the continental showpiece. By clinching the gold medal, she also secured a quota spot for India in women’s recurve archery at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
