The 2026 Presidents Cup begins on Thursday, September 24, with the first five team matches at Medinah No. 3 in Chicago. Presidents Cup Day 1 matches: What to know
The first day of play at the 2026 Presidents Cup will feature five matches. The format for all five matches on Day 1 will be four-ball. In four-ball, all four competitors play their own balls, with the lowest score on each team counting for each hole.
Each match will feature two players from the U.S. team and two players from the International team. We don’t know who those players will be yet, but we do know how they’re determined.
Each captain picks which of their players will compete in each match and which match they will play in. But the captains do this work separately, so they don’t know which players the other captain is selecting for each match.
Crucially, not all players will compete in each session. Only 10 players on each team will compete on Thursday, leaving two per team to sit on the bench.
U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker and International captain Geoff Ogilvy will announce their selections for Thursday’s matches on Wednesday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. ET live on Golf Channel.
