21-Year-Old Died After Staff Threw Her Without Safety Ropes Was ‘Breathing Heavily’ Nurse Reveals

The 21-year-old, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, woke up on the morning of June 13, 2026, thinking it to be another adventurous day of her life. She was excited to try bungee jumping from the São Paulo Skeleton Bridge in Brazil. But she had no idea that the adventure sport she was looking forward to would be the reason she would lose her life. Now, the nurse, who ran to her first-aid after the crew threw her without a rope, revealed shocking details.

The nurse who ran to Maria Eduarda’s rescue revealed she was alive after the 130-foot fall from the bridge

Maria lost her life at the Ponte do Esqueleto, famously known as ‘Skeleton Bridge’. It is famous for extreme sports adventures. As per the investigators, Maria was thrown from the bridge without a safety rope attached to her harness. The three men who launched her from the bridge didn’t attach the safety rope. The horrific video footage reveals how witnesses on the bridge yelled that she was thrown without the safety gear, which was connected to her.

However, after the horrific accident, the first person who reached her was an off-duty nurse, Rayza Dias. She revealed that Maria was still alive. The nurse revealed that getting down wasn’t easy due to the muddy terrain, and she even injured her hand in an attempt to reach the 21-year-old for first-aid. She was quoted as saying:

“I scraped my whole hand because there’s a steep slope down there and only one rope for us to climb down. It was all covered in mud. I kept going down, down; we walked all the way.”

The nurse further revealed that she saw Maria was breathing heavily. However, her pupils were both dilated and her pulse was very weak, but she still had a pulse. So, the nurse tried to get her to talk, and joked that ‘nobody dies on her shift’. She was quoted as saying:

“I saw that she was breathing heavily, and I looked at her pupils, which unfortunately were both dilated and felt her pulse. It was very weak, but she still had a pulse. I even talked to her. I have a habit of joking and saying, ‘Nobody dies on my shift.’ And I told her, “Duda [Eduarda], nobody dies on my shift. “Even though I wasn’t on my shift there.”

Bungee jump staff revealed that they ‘do not remember’ attaching the safety cord to Maria

The very people responsible for a person’s safety during an extreme sport like this forgot to attach the safety cord. Authorities have detained six people in the matter. Investigators have revealed that there was a breach in safety protocols, and the organiser and staff present there were responsible for the death of Maria. When the three crew members who threw Maria off the bridge were presented in court, one of them revealed that they were not fleeing, but had just changed their clothes as they got wet. Another person responsible for checking the cords on every person revealed that he just does not remember checking the cord on Maria. He was quoted as saying:

“Usually it’s [Mr Egoroff] who puts on the rope. In 99 per cent of cases… and I assist with the operation. I participate in the check, I call the person, I check the helmet. But in her case, I don’t remember. I don’t remember.”

The judge hearing the matter in the Criminal Court of Limeira ordered that the three men remain behind bars, as a young girl lost her life, and this could have been avoided if proper care had been given to the matter. The judge pointed out that they exploited the victim’s vulnerability, who trusted them with her life. It also came to the notice of how they attempted to flee and change clothing after the event, and demonstrated awareness of the illegality of the activity.
