They’ve been making music for more than 20 years – but many 3OH!3 fans still have no idea what the band’s iconic name actually means. The electronic music duo, made up of 3OH!3 members Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte, are best known for their hit Don’t Trust Me, which, according to fans, contains one of the “best lyrics” in music history.
Their other breakthrough hits include Starstrukk, featuring Katy Perry, and My First Kiss with Kesha. Despite their popularity, many fans still have no idea what the band’s unusual name means, with social media users regularly turning to online forums in search of answers.
According to Another Planet Entertainment, 3OH!3 refers to 303, the telephone area code for Boulder, Colorado, where the duo was formed.
The “OH!” is simply a stylistic choice, but the name is still pronounced “three-oh-three”.
More than two decades after forming in 2004, the duo are still performing live, touring festivals and headline shows across the US and beyond, while continuing to release new music for longtime fans.
Speaking about their musical impact, some fans claim Don’t Trust Me includes one of the “best lyrics” in music history, thanks to the line: “You tell your boyfriend, if he says he’s got beef. That I’m a vegetarian and I ain’t f***ing scared of him.”
Commenting on a Reddit post titled, “What are the most bada** lyrics you’ve ever heard in a song that just made you pause?”, one user said: “It’s been like ten years and this line from 3OH!3’s Don’t Trust Me is still iconic.”
