Karimnagar:In a shocking incident, at least 40 monkeys were found dead on Tuesday night at the Brihat Palle Prakruthi Vanam in the mandal headquarters of Yellareddypet in Rajanna Sircilla district.

The police suspect foul play, with many believing the animals may have been intentionally poisoned.

The grim discovery was made by local residents who visited the park with their families on Wednesday morning. They found the carcasses scattered near the park’s fencing.

Amidst the dead adults, visitors also found two young monkeys crying near their mothers. One infant monkey was rescued by locals after it managed to crawl through the fencing.

Community members have expressed outrage over the incident. The local administration has been active in catching stray monkeys and releasing them into forest areas to avert the monkey menace.

While initial reports suggested 10 deaths, officials later confirmed that nearly 40 monkeys lost their lives.

Police have launched an investigation. Veterinary doctors arrived at the site to collect the bodies and do the post-mortem examination. Inspector Venkatesh said legal action will be taken against those responsible for the deaths.
