Around 45 passengers escaped unhurt after a private travels bus caught fire at Paillapadu in Konijerla mandal of Khammam district on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around midnight, causing panic among the passengers.
The bus, operated by Shree Manikanta Travels, had started from Palasa in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh with 45 passengers and was proceeding to Hyderabad.
When the bus reached Paillapadu, driver K. Narayana Swamy noticed smoke emanating from the engine and stopped the vehicle on the roadside. He alerted the passengers, most of whom were asleep, and helped them get off the bus before the fire engulfed the engine.
The driver brought the fire under control using the fire extinguishers available on the bus.
On receiving information, Konijerla police reached the spot and facilitated the passengers’ onward journey by arranging other buses. No passenger was injured in the incident.
Police registered a case and investigating.
