5 items this golf writer actually wants for Father’s Day

Don’t fret if you still can’t decide on what to buy your dad, father-in-law or husband for Father’s Day. If they happen to be a golfer — even an occasional one — we have you covered.

While there are some things I certainly am not qualified to do — don’t ask me to change the oil of your car — as a dad, golfer and golf writer, I feel supremely confident I’m a good source to write this piece. Golf Balls

Rangefinder

Rangefinders are a golfer’s best friend, which is ironic because we often leave our best friends behind. I’ve lost several rangefinders over the years, mostly due to leaving them in carts when I’m done with rounds. Launch Monitor

This is more on the expensive end and best for a golfer who dedicates a little more time to their game than the weekend warrior, but a launch monitor can be a really helpful (and fun) item for golfers trying to get better. While pros might spend $14,000 on Trackmans to carry from one tournament to the next, there are several smaller, less expensive items that can fit in golf bags. These gadgets are handy because while we might think we can hit our 7-irons 170 yards or so on the driving range, that might not always be the case. A trusty launch monitor can give you more accurate information.

Chipping Net

There are two reasons I think this is kind of cool. One, it’s easy to set up and take down in the backyard and might actually get me to practice my chipping. And two, the different pockets to aim at might make for a fun game to get kids involved. Because you know the drill: the more kids want to play golf, the more we get to play golf.
