NELLORE: Emphasising a statewide spiritual revival, endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy announced that more than 600 ancient temples are being renovated, alongside construction of new shrines and financial support for thousands of temples across Andhra Pradesh.
The minister made the announcement after attending the Maha Kumbhabhishekam of Sri Seetharamaswamy Temple at Viruvuru village in Podalakur mandal on Thursday, along with Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy.
He said the Viruvuru temple was renovated at a cost of ₹50 lakh, including ₹40 lakh from the Common Good Fund and ₹10 lakh contributed by donors, with key structures built in granite. Further development works are planned in phases.
Highlighting broader initiatives, Anam said more than 5,900 temples are receiving monthly financial assistance under the Dhoopa Deepa Naivedyam scheme. In addition, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, plans are under way to construct 5,000 new temples with an allocation of ₹750 crore through Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams support.
Describing Nellore as an emerging spiritual hub, he said temple development works worth crores of rupees are under way across the district.
Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy praised the government’s efforts, stating that never before had such extensive funds been allocated for temple development.
Endowments officials and local public representatives were present at the event.
