Every day, we read new research about how AI is corroding the human mind, about how it destroying our ability to imagine. Art—and the new art shows opening in India this June—is one of the most effective antidotes against this mental atrophy. For those travelling to cooler climes, Sediments of Becoming: Fossilised Present, Summoned Pasts, a cross-cultural art show curated by Threshold Gallery’s Tunty Chauhan, opens at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 4. Closer to home, Sohrab Hura is exhibiting at Experimenter Mumbai until mid-July, and 47A in Khotachiwadi is showcasing How the Akanksha Children Found Their Colours, a tribute to master painters like Jamini Roy and MF Husain by underprivileged kids honed by the NGO Akanksha until 7th June. Our pick of other exhibitions you can’t miss this month:

A City Without Witness by Anirban Mishra at Akara Contemporary, Mumbai

Daily Offerings (2026).

Living in Howrah, Anirban Mishra has constantly been exposed to urban life and industrial worlds, and brings these notions to life on his canvases. In his latest solo show, the contemporary artist focuses his brush on the details we tend to miss observing in our daily lives. A man engrossed in a newspaper, an empty hallway, a flower seller with her wares—Mishra makes the unseen seen, and brings a certain poignancy to his artworks that centre ordinary moments of everyday life.

On view at Akara Contemporary, 3C Amarchand Mansion, Madam Cama Road, Colaba, Mumbai until 12th June 2026
