Why There Is No Picture Of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khameni’s Wife Amid His Death? Rare Interview

Iran is again burning due to the tense situation and attacks launched by the US and Israel. Amid the heated situation, reports claim that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died after the US and Israel’s attack on Trehan. He was 86 years old at the time of his death. While all eyes are on Iran, many wonder why there is no presence of his wife, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh.

Why is there no mention of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s wife, Mansoureh Khaojasteh Bagherzadeh?

As several reports claim that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei passed away in the attack, many are searching for his wife, Mansoureh Khaojasteh Bagherzadeh, but to no avail. There are no pictures of her in the media or public sphere. The reason why there are no pictures or presence of Iran’s Supreme Leader’s wife, Mansoureh, is due to the belief that a good and honourable wife is someone who stays away from public as much as possible.

It is the reason why Ali Khamenei’s wife remained absent or invisible in Iran’s political dynamics. There are no picture sof Mansoureh Khaojasteh Bagherzadeh. In fact, when she was hospitalised in 2011, no information was leaked about her presence. The hospital staff found out that she was the wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader after he visited her.

However, we got our hands on her rare interview, which was first published in 1993’s Iranian magazine, published in English for international distribution. When the interviewer questioned Mansoureh about how she met her husband, she revealed that they got married in 1964. The wedding took place as per their custom during those days. It was Ali Khamenei’s mother who asked for her hand. She said:

“I married him in 1964. The wedding took place as it was customary in religious families of those days; her mother came to our house to ask for my hand.”

Talking about their children, the two welcomed four sons and two daughters. Further, in the interview, Mansoureh was asked about her contribution during her husband’s struggle against the Shah’s regime. She shared that her biggest role was to keep a calm atmosphere at their home so that he could work in peace. She even talked about visiting him in prison and never shared details about the problems they were facing, and she would only share good news. She added that she was even actively participating in distributing pamphlets and carrying messages. She said:

I think my biggest role was to preserve a calm atmosphere in our home so that he could do his work in peace. I would sometimes visit him in prison without telling him about our problems. In response to his questions about us, I would only give him good news. Of course I was also active in distributing pamphlets, carrying messages and hiding documents, but I think [these actions] are not worth mentioning.

When she was questioned whether her husband helps her at home, she straight away said that he neither had time nor she expected him to do anything. She added that after coming home, he tried to keep his work-related problems away from home. When questioned about her husband’s expectation from her, she stated that he doesn’t expect anything but a calm and healthy family. The kind of life Mansoureh lived, with no expectation to be part of her husband’s political limelight, gained her the title of Iran’s invisible woman.
