Nellore: Joint collector, Mogili Venkateswarlu, directed officials to clear mounting library cess arrears across municipalities in the Nellore district. At a review meeting with the District Library Cess Committee was held on Wednesday at his chamber, which was attended by District Library Organisation chairperson Mekapati Shanthikumari, municipal commissioners, and Nellore Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner Chennudu. The meeting focused on recovery of pending dues, which have reached nearly Rs 50 crore. The Joint Collector instructed the Nellore Municipal Corporation to pay Rs 10 crore from its 2025–26 revenue and continue clearing old dues at Rs 30 lakh per month. Similar directions were issued to municipalities, including Kavali, Gudur, Atmakur, Naidupet, Venkatagiri, Buchireddypalem, and Allur, specifying advance payments and monthly instalments. He also ordered memos to be issued to Kavali and Naidupet municipal commissioners for not attending the meeting. Officials were directed to ensure cess collections are remitted directly to the District Library Organisation.
