I’m A Celebrity… South Africa star Ashley Roberts has revealed what she believes caused Harry Redknapp‘s blunder during Thursday’s episode of the show. In a brutal and unexpected blow, the 79-year-old was tasked with evicting one member of his Team Lion campmates, following a challenge.
After informing the group of the decision he had to make, he announced he had chosen Seann Walsh – but mistakenly referred to him as “Stuart”.
Discussing the moment, Ashley said she and Scarlett Moffatt were partly to blame for the former football manager getting the name wrong.
Speaking on Heart Radio’s Breakfast Show with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston, she said: “Poor Harry! What happened is, this wasn’t aired, Harry came in and was trying to tell us what was going on, and he looked over to the right, where we had all of our names on the chalkboard with our chores, which me and Scarlett had just erased.
“So, it looks like he was looking for help to remember Seann’s name, and then he said ‘Stuart’. He looked at Seann and Seann was like, ‘Okay, I guess that’s me’.”
Ashley added that the campmates are still jokingly calling the comedian by the wrong name months after filming.
Sharing his thoughts on Harry’s mistake, Jamie said he had seen first-hand how difficult the former football manager finds making such decisions.
Reflecting on their time together on Soccer Aid, he recalled Jamie Redknapp’s dad “genuinely [finding] it very difficult” to turn people down, adding: “He’s such a lovely guy.”
Harry has since addressed the moment himself, admitting he initially offered to leave the camp himself, but was refused. Speaking at a live event, he explained that when he returned to the camp, he was suddenly asked to choose who would go home.
“I’m stood there, I’m the King and I’ve got a silly crown on, and I forgot his name – it had gone completely blank,” he said. “I was looking over at the board, but someone had wiped it out. I told them who was going home so I couldn’t change it.”
He added: “I was dithering and I said, ‘I’m sorry Stuart, I’m going to have to send you home’. Afterwards they all said, ‘Harry, his name is Seann’. He will hate me.”
Seann, however, took the mistake in good humour, responding: “Oh fair enough, yeah, that’s absolutely fair enough.”
Harry was later heard correctly calling Seann by his name after realising the error and apologising.
The remaining contestants competing to be crowned Legend of the Jungle are Harry, Ashley Roberts, Scarlett Moffatt, David, Gemma Collins, Sinitta, Sir Mo Farah, Adam Thomas, Beverley Callard, Craig Charles and Jimmy Bullard.
