Hyderabad: Rheumatic diseases are increasingly being observed among women above the age
(Nims) here on Saturday. They were speaking at a continuing medical
education (CME) programme on the theme ‘medical–obstetric interface in
rheumatic diseases’.
Nims director Dr Nagari Beerappa inaugurated the event that was organised by
the department of clinical immunology and rheumatology in collaboration with
the obstetrics department of Fernandez Foundation. Experts noted that both
the disease and certain medications used in rheumatic diseases and could
have adverse effects on pregnancy.
They stressed the need for close coordination between obstetrics and
rheumatology departments, stating that better communication and a
multidisciplinary approach are essential to ensure improved maternal health
and positive outcomes for newborns.
