A man murdered his wife inside the Yemmiganur Area Government Hospital in

Kurnool district on Sunday. According to police, the accused, Ramanna,
attacked his wife Narasamma with a knife in the maternity ward. The couple,
residents of Yemmiganur, had reportedly been living separately due to family
disputes.

Their daughter had been admitted to the hospital for delivery, and Narasamma
had gone there to attend to her. Ramanna also visited the hospital on the
pretext of seeing his daughter. Upon noticing his wife, he allegedly picked
up an argument and, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulted her
indiscriminately with a knife.

Narasamma sustained severe injuries and was shifted for treatment within the
same hospital but succumbed soon after. Yemmiganur police registered a case
and launched an investigation. Officials stated that long‑standing marital
discord appears to have driven the accused to commit the crime.

SP cautions parents against minor driving during summer

With summer holidays underway and traffic expected to increase, Prakasam district superintendent of police V. Harshavardhan Raju has issued a stern warning against minor driving, urging parents to remain vigilant and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules to avoid mishaps.
The SP stressed that allowing minors, those under 18, to operate vehicles is both dangerous and a punishable offence. He cautioned that if minors are caught driving, vehicle owners and parents will face legal action, including hefty fines and possible imprisonment.
Highlighting the risks in holiday season, he noted that many youngsters take to two-wheelers for leisure without proper knowledge of traffic norms, increasing the chances of accidents. “Children’s safety must come first. Preventing minor driving is a shared responsibility,” he said.
He urged parents to closely monitor their children’s movements during the holidays and instill road safety awareness, including the use of helmets and respect for traffic rules.
The SP also cautioned motorists against reckless practices such as speeding, drunk driving and taking wrong routes during congestion. Drivers were advised to remain patient during peak hours and cooperate with traffic personnel.
For long-distance travel, motorists should check tyres, brakes and engine condition before setting out and avoid stopping in unsafe zones on highways, he added.
Reiterating stricter enforcement, he directed police to intensify action against violations, especially minor and drunken driving. “Your life and your family’s happiness are in your hands. Follow the rules and stay safe,” he said.
