Hyderabad: The Water Board has said that recent weather changes had caused power outages which affected drinking water supply in parts of the city.
According to officials, areas housing the Singur and Manjira pump houses were witnessing frequent adverse conditions such as strong winds, hailstorms, and unseasonal rain. These led to uprooted trees and snapped power lines, resulting in interruptions in electricity supply.
Due to these power disruptions, water pumping operations were being temporarily halted, leading to delays and interruptions in supply. Officials noted that even short power cuts lasting 15 to 30 minutes were significantly impacting the functioning of the older Manjeera water supply system. On Sunday, a major power disruption halted pumping for nearly seven hours, severely affecting scheduled water supply operations.
The areas impacted included RC Puram, BHEL, Chandanagar, Miyapur, Kukatpally, Erragadda, SR Nagar, and Sanathnagar, where residents faced irregular supply schedules, low water pressure, and occasional shortages. The board said it was closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to restore supply in affected areas while ensuring normal distribution in other parts of the city.
