Hyderabad: Hyderabad Public School (HPS), Ramanthapur, has proposed a revised fee structure on Tuesday after days of protests by parents, even as tensions continued on Tuesday over access to school authorities and the absence of a formal update.

In the revised structure, the school removed the earlier 25-30 per cent jump in fees between Class V and Class VI, kept Nursery fees unchanged, and introduced a six per cent increase from PP1 to Class V, an eight per cent increase for Class VI, and a 10 per cent increase for Classes VII to XII. However, the management said the revision is not final.

“We are proposing a six per cent increase. The revised fee structure is a proposed structure, and we are working closely with parents and will come to a conclusion after proper discussion,” the management said.

Parents said the revision came without dialogue. They went to meet the Principal on Tuesday morning, expecting clarity after an assurance that a board meeting would be convened following the April 17 protest. “We waited until Monday, but there was no update,” a parent said, adding that when they reached the campus, they were not allowed inside and were asked to return later in the day. The proposed fee structure came soon after the parents noted.

On the same day, the school, in its communication, also rejected claims of a 140 per cent hike as “misleading” and said fee revisions were gradual and planned. Parents, however, dispute this explanation, saying the hikes over the years were layered through class-wise adjustments. “What looks like 10-15 per cent yearly hikes is actually slab changes where each class is pushed up to match the next,” they said, adding that fees have doubled from around Rs 80,000–Rs 1 lakh to over Rs 2 lakh within four years.

“We asked for a uniform fee hike and no increase for the next three years. This revision does not reflect that,” parents said.
