Kakinada:Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh said the Andhra Pradesh government has set a target of establishing 50,000 tourism rooms across the state over the next five years to boost the hospitality sector.
Reviewing Rajamahendravaram Tourism Hub, APTDC Kakinada Division projects and other tourism works on Saturday, the minister said a Lemon Tree hotel was under construction in Rajamahendravaram. He added that home-stay models such as traditional Manduva Logilli houses and guest houses would be promoted in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities where five-star hotels were not available.
Durgesh directed officials to make Tent Cities and Home Stays ready for Godavari Pushkaralu-2027. He said the Chief Minister had instructed officials to establish Tent Cities at 21 major temples and prepare a comprehensive plan to provide better facilities for devotees.
He said the state aimed to develop tourism beyond Kerala standards and create employment opportunities for common people through home-stays. Spiritual tourism would also receive a major boost through Pushkaralu celebrations.
The minister said a Godavari tourism circuit would be developed to attract domestic and international visitors. He added that the successful Vizag-Araku caravan tourism model would soon be introduced in the Godavari districts.
He instructed officials to prepare an action plan for development of Kakinada and Perupalem beaches and pursue Blue Flag certification.
Durgesh warned that notices should be issued to contractors handling incomplete or poorly maintained projects, and such works reassigned if necessary.
He said the government would extend red-carpet treatment to investors and speed up approvals. With the support of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the tourism department had secured 100 MoUs worth ₹20,000 crore, he added.
