Westlife’s Nicky Byrne has celebrated a huge milestone with his ‘little princess’ Gia as the 12 year old becomes a mini version of her mum Georgina Ahern

Westlife‘s Nicky Byrne has taken to Instagram to share his pride in his daughter as she celebrates a milestone. Nicky‘s 12-year-old daughter, Gia, had her confirmation on 29 April.

The singer posed with his “little princess” outside the church. Gia wore a pale pink dress with a white cardigan, whilst Nicky wore a brown suit with a pink shirt.

Gia’s mother, Georgina Ahern, wore a matching white shirt and skirt with heels and a pair of sunglasses. Standing next to her mum, Gia looked like a mini version of Georgina except for her blonde hair, which she inherited from her dad.

As well as the traditional pictures, Nicky also shared a video of him and Gia playing with a football the night before. In the video, the football approached the camera and when it moved away, it showed Nicky and Gia the next day in their finery.

In the caption, Nicky said: “Congratulations to our little princess Gia on her confirmation day.” A confirmation is a Christian tradition where a person who has already been baptised makes their commitment to the church.

Nicky’s fans flooded the comments with words of support for Gia. One said: “Love it, hope you enjoy your special day Gia, looking smashing.” Another added: “Video transitions so smooth. Pretty Gia.” A third said: “Beautiful like her mumma. Hope you all had an amazing day. Weather looks beautiful.”

Nicky shares Gia with his wife, Georgina. The two have been married for 22 years and have two other children – twins Jay and Rocco, who are both 19.

Westlife were formed back in 1998 when Brian McFadden and Nicky Byrne joined school pals and original members Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily. They went on to become one of the biggest UK boy bands of all time – selling over 55 million records worldwide with pop anthems like Flying Without Wings, You Raise Me Up and Swear It Again. After splitting in 2012, they reunited in 2018, 20 years after forming.

Before finding fame in Westlife, Nicky was forging a successful career in professional football – playing for Ireland and Leeds United as a teenager. In 2012, he hosted the RTE reality TV show Football’s Next Star, and in 2014, he was the only non-pro to score a goal in the televised charity match Soccer Aid.

Having become a singer, he represented Ireland at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, but failed to make the final. He also had a five-year stint as a radio host on RTE 2fm and competed on Strictly in 2013.

Nicky and Georgina were childhood sweethearts, meeting long before Nicky would be in Westlife and before Georgina’s father Bertie Ahern was elected Taoiseach. They met when they were 12, which is Gia’s age, at their school in North Dublin.
