Hyderabad: With paddy procurement for Rabi crossing 10 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) mark, the state government has released Rs 500.2 crore towards minimum support price payments to more than one lakh farmers.

The civil supplies department said they had procured 10.2 LMT of paddy as against the target of 90 LMT for the Rabi season. An official said the state had purchased 4.5 LMT of the fine variety (sannarakam), the rest being of the coarse variety.

Civil supplies commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said the department was operating at full capacity. All 8,575 paddy purchase centres were open, including 4,350 run by PACS, 3,563 Indira Kranthi Patham centres and 662 operated by supporting agencies. Officials were shifting the paddy directly from the purchase centers to the mills, creating space for more grain.
