Former Pittwater Liberal MP Rory Amon will face a retrial over allegedly raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old child on Sydney’s northern beaches.
The 36-year-old faced the NSW Supreme Court on Friday and formally pleaded not guilty to sexual intercourse without consent and indecent assault of the boy in July 2017.
Amon, who is out on bail, stood up and said “not guilty” to both indictments.
In March, he faced his first NSW Supreme Court trial over 10 child sexual abuse charges, including sexual intercourse, indecent assault and attempted sexual intercourse. They related to two separate alleged incidents in Mona Vale.
He was ultimately found not guilty of eight counts, while the jury returned a deadlock verdict on the remaining two counts.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has chosen to prosecute Amon with a retrial on the hung counts, which is listed for two weeks in November.
Amon quit parliament hours after being charged with the child sex offences in August 2024.
At the time, he said the people of Pittwater “should have a representative who can dedicate 100 per cent of their time advocating for this wonderful community”.
“As I defend myself against these charges, I will not be able to devote my full energy to representing them.”
He also thanked his supporters and described his time as member for Pittwater as the honour of his life.
Amon is also a former Northern Beaches councillor, who was elected in 2017. He replaced former planning minister Rob Stokes as MP for Pittwater at the March 2023 election.
