Warangal: Sand workers staged a sudden protest near Upparapalli Crossroads in Wardhannapet mandal of Warangal district on Sunday, alleging loss of livelihood due to the government’s “rigid approach” toward sand-related operations.

The workers said they have been left without any means of income and demanded that the government provide them with an alternative source of employment. Raising slogans, they insisted that authorities must immediately intervene to safeguard their livelihood.

As part of their protest, the agitators blocked the Warangal–Khammam National Highway, resulting in a large traffic jam and disruption of vehicular movement for several hours.

Police personnel from Wardhannapet, Parvathagiri, and Ayyanavolu mandals rushed to the spot and attempted to pacify the protesting workers. However, the labourers remained firm in their demand, stating that they would not withdraw the protest until local MLA Nagaraju arrives and gives a clear assurance regarding their future employment.

Authorities are continuing efforts to restore normal traffic flow and resolve the situation through negotiations.
