
Chennai: Tension prevailed briefly at Chennai International Airport on Sunday after a passenger opened an emergency exit door while an aircraft was taxiing.
An Air Arabia flight from Sharjah with 231 passengers had landed and was moving along the taxiway when the incident occurred.
A 34-year-old passenger from Pudukkottai opened one of the emergency exit doors, prompting the pilot to halt the aircraft and alert authorities.
Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force, including bomb disposal and armed units, reached the spot. The pilot lodged a complaint, following which security personnel boarded the aircraft and took the passenger into custody.
Officials said the passenger is being questioned and his mental condition is under assessment.
