Jeremy Doku scored a sublime opening goal for Manchester City against Everton to put them on course to narrow the gap to Premier League leaders Arsenal to three points.
City, six points behind Arsenal at kick-off having played two games fewer, laboured to find a way through the Everton defence at the Hill Dickinson Stadium despite dominating possession.
But Doku broke the deadlock in stunning fashion two minutes before the end of normal time in the first half.
The Belgian collected a pass from Rayan Cherki from just inside the area and, after cleverly creating space for himself, curled superbly into the top-left corner, leaving Jordan Pickford with no chance.
His strike put City in position to move within striking distance with Arsenal, though the Gunners still have a three-goal advantage in goal difference having beaten Fulham 3-0 on Saturday.
