The wait for Drishyam 3 is steadily nearing its end. Starring Mohanlal and directed by Jeethu Joseph, the much-anticipated Malayalam film is set for a grand release on May 21, coinciding with the superstar’s birthday. Now, the makers have revealed another major update surrounding the film’s rollout.

Georgekutty Returns As Drishyam 3 Builds Global Buzz

On Monday night, the team officially announced that the film’s first-ever show will take place in the United States ahead of its India release. Sharing the update on social media, the makers wrote, “Georgekutty makes his first move… In the USA. Drishyam 3 world’s first show begins in the USA, premieres from 7:30 pm PST on May 20.”

The announcement has further heightened excitement around the film, which continues the story of Georgekutty and his family years after the events of Drishyam 2. The franchise, which began in 2013, remains one of Indian cinema’s most successful thriller sagas and has inspired remakes across multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Sinhala, and Chinese.

While the first film revolved around Georgekutty’s desperate attempt to protect his family after an accidental crime, Drishyam 2 shifted gears into a procedural drama where the police attempted to reopen the investigation surrounding Varun’s disappearance. The second part ended with Georgekutty once again staying ahead of the law, reinforcing his image as one of Malayalam cinema’s most layered protagonists.

Interestingly, Jeethu Joseph has already hinted that Drishyam 3 will take a different emotional route. According to the filmmaker, the new chapter is designed more as a family drama than a suspense-driven thriller, suggesting a deeper focus on the emotional cost of Georgekutty’s choices.

Teaser Hints At A More Vulnerable Georgekutty

The recently released teaser offered audiences their first glimpse into the emotional terrain of the upcoming film. Unlike the tense cat-and-mouse atmosphere of the previous instalments, the teaser suggests a more introspective Georgekutty, seemingly weighed down by guilt and paranoia.

At one point in the teaser, Georgekutty admits that he acted without thinking about the consequences and now lives with constant fear. The moment has sparked conversations among fans, many of whom are curious to see whether the third film finally dismantles the carefully constructed life he has built around his secrets.

Alongside Mohanlal, the film reunites much of the franchise’s familiar cast. Meena returns as Rani George, while Esther Anil and Ansiba Hassan reprise their roles as Georgekutty’s daughters. The supporting cast also includes Murali Gopy, Siddique, and Asha Sharath, whose police officer character Geetha Prabhakar remains central to the franchise’s emotional conflict.

The technical crew from Drishyam 2 has also returned for the new instalment. Composer Anil Johnson once again handles the music, while cinematographer Satheesh Kurup and editor Vinayak VS are back on board. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas and presented by Pen Studios and Panorama Studios.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal was recently seen in a cameo appearance in Patriot, which also featured Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban.

With the franchise carrying enormous audience goodwill and Jeethu Joseph promising a tonal shift, Drishyam 3 is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Indian releases of the year.
