The playoff battle in the Indian Premier League 2026 has entered a crucial stage with Sunrisers Hyderabad climbing to the top of the points table after a consistent run of performances. With 14 points from 11 matches and a healthy Net Run Rate of +0.737, SRH have emerged as one of the strongest contenders not only for a playoff berth but also for a top-two finish.

Hyderabad’s impressive campaign has been built on consistency across departments, with the side winning seven matches and losing four so far. Having won four of their last five games, SRH now require just one more victory from their remaining three league matches to move very close to securing qualification. Two more wins could almost guarantee them a top-two finish, giving them two opportunities to reach the final.

While SRH currently lead the table, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are considered one of the biggest threats in the tournament. RCB have collected 12 points from just nine matches and possess the best Net Run Rate in the league at +1.420. Bengaluru’s dominant victories this season have placed them in a commanding position despite playing fewer matches than most rivals.

RCB still have five league matches remaining and are likely to qualify comfortably if they secure three more wins. Their superior NRR could also prove decisive in the battle for a top-two finish, making them one of the favourites to reach the final.

Punjab Kings have also enjoyed one of their strongest IPL seasons in recent years. Punjab currently sit on 13 points from 10 matches with a positive Net Run Rate of +0.571. The side has shown balance with both bat and ball and remains firmly in control of its playoff destiny. PBKS are likely to qualify if they win at least three of their remaining four games.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals continue to stay firmly in the race with 12 points from 10 matches and a positive Net Run Rate of +0.510. Rajasthan have produced several strong performances this season but will need consistency in the final stretch to secure a top-four finish.

Gujarat Titans are also on 12 points from 10 matches but their negative Net Run Rate of -0.147 remains a concern. GT may need at least three wins from their remaining matches to avoid depending on other results and NRR calculations.

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings remain under pressure after an inconsistent campaign. CSK have managed 10 points from 10 games and will likely need to win most of their remaining fixtures to stay alive in the playoff race. Despite their struggles, Chennai’s experience in pressure situations keeps them in contention.

The situation looks increasingly difficult for Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. Delhi currently have eight points from 10 matches along with a poor Net Run Rate of -0.949, while KKR have managed only seven points from nine games. Mumbai’s campaign has been particularly disappointing, with the side winning just three of their 10 matches.

At the bottom of the table, Lucknow Super Giants are virtually out of contention after suffering five consecutive defeats. LSG have only four points from nine matches and possess the worst Net Run Rate in the tournament.

As the league stage enters its decisive phase, the race for playoff spots is expected to intensify further. Based on current form, points tally and Net Run Rate, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru currently appear as the strongest contenders to reach the IPL 2026 final, while Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals remain dangerous challengers in the race for the title.
