Bhubaneswar : In a move aimed at speeding up urban services and reducing delays in approvals, the Odisha government has fixed a seven-day timeline for disposal of house construction plan applications submitted through the SUJOG app.

Housing and urban development minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced that officials failing to clear files within the stipulated period will face a penalty of Rs 250 per day.

The decision was taken during a departmental review meeting to streamline the approval process and ensure quicker service delivery to applicants.

“The stipulated time is seven days. After this duration, the file will be forwarded to another official. We had conducted a survey to identify the reasons behind the delays. Officers who fail to adhere to the timeline will be charged a fine of Rs 250 for every day beyond the seven-day period,” the minister said.

He added that files remaining pending beyond seven days would automatically be transferred to another official for further processing.

Mahapatra further said the state government has set a target to provide housing to 80 per cent of people by 2036. Directions have already been issued to district collectors for identification and allotment of land for the housing initiative.

According to the minister, houses will be constructed immediately after land allocation and handed over to beneficiaries under various government schemes.

Under the affordable housing initiative, the government plans to provide houses in three categories, including Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Lower Income Group (LIG) models.

The minister also said urban land development would be carried out through Town Planning (TP) schemes as per requirement. Under the Chief Minister Smart City Scheme, 49 towns will be covered in the first phase.

Infrastructure projects related to beautification, roads, drinking water supply and sewerage systems will also be undertaken as part of the programme, he added.
