Sai Pallavi made her Bollywood debut opposite Junaid Khan in the recently released film, Ek Din. She will also be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana along with Ranbir Kapoor. While the actress has received praise for Ek Din, she was initially not sure whether she would fit in.

In a promotional video for Ek Din, she revealed that she told Aamir Khan at a premiere that she is a misfit for the role. She said, “I don’t think I was meant to do this, and I think I am miscast. I feel so, I think it should have been a new person who had a little bit of flamboyance.”

Junaid, however, believed that Sai was meant to do the role. She further said why she finally came on board and said, “It is not about the scale of a film that drives me. At that point of time in my life, I had done a lot of films which were heavy, and I wanted to do something that was light that did not have me carry a lot of trauma through the making and even after. So when the script came along, I thought this was going to be in the zone of Before Sunrise. Because I like Before Sunrise, and I thought this was going to be like that.”

Ek Din is backed by Aamir Khan and directed by Sunil Pandey.

Filmfare’s Review of Ek Din

Filmfare gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and the reviewer wrote, “Sai Pallavi, making her Hindi debut, is the film’s emotional centre. As Meera, a South Indian woman whose Tamil-accented Hindi feels organic rather than performed, she relies less on dialogue and more on expression. Her eyes do much of the heavy lifting, whether conveying heartbreak, rediscovery, or the tentative stirrings of love. There is an unaffected quality to her performance that elevates even the quieter moments, making them feel lived-in rather than staged.”
