Peep Show star Matt King has taken to social media to share a health update with fans just days after he disclosed that he’d suffered from a stroke and was in hospital
Peep Show’s Matt King has shared a major health update after suffering from a stroke. The actor, 58, who is best known for playing Super Hans in the sitcom, disclosed the news to fans last week.
In an alarming health update on April 30, he told fans that he had been left paralysed due to the medical condition, and his legs went like “jelly”. But a week on, the star is still in hospital recovering. Despite being in the hospital, Matt remained optimistic as he shared an update with his followers on X (formerly Twitter).
He told a fan that he’d suffered a stroke as a result of a clot. Addressing his 46,000 followers, Matt said: “Right now, recovering in hospital from a stupid stroke, I’ve ordered a Subway club from Uber Eats and I’m monging out to some Mazzy Star.”
He added: “Seriously though, they should find a f**king cure. Thanks for the ongoing love.” His post was soon flooded with messages from fans wishing him a speedy recovery.
One said: “I commend your excellent taste in subs and music and wish you a speedy recovery.” “Speedy recovery! I’m watching Peep Show right this minute and the joy your character brings is endless,” said a second.
While a third went on to write: “You are a special person who has brought so much joy and fun to this life we all live. I have met you so I am sending you as much affection as is possible. You will recover and continue to be a gem of a man.”
“Best wishes for your recovery,” said another. A fifth penned: “Oh mate. Sending so much love and as many hugs as you can tolerate. Get well.” Matt previously explained that the was being treated at The Royal Sussex County Hospital following the incident over the weekend.
Sharing a picture of himself in a hospital bed alongside a stuffed teddy, Matt wrote: “It’s true. I had a rare stroke of the spinal cord on Sunday. I paralysed but was rushed to The Royal Sussex and the staff have been amazing.
“Can walk again, a bit. My legs were jelly, man. It didn’t feel f**king brilliant. Thank you for all the love and kindness.” His former Peep Show co-star, Vera Graziadei who played the role of Elena, asked fans to pray for him.
Writing on Instagram, the actress said: “Peeples, let’s send some prayers and love to our dear friend and bloody brilliant actor and human – Matt @thatmattkingfella who needs it now. Health issue so send your love and support to him!”
Matt replied: “Thank you to my beautiful and amazing friend @vera.graziadei for her kindness and words. I’m doing okay. They will rebuild me, at a cost of exactly six million dollars. I should get some sort of nickname out of that. Thanks for all the love. MK.”
Matt had portrayed the role of Super Hans for 12 years in Peep Show. The sitcom which follows the exploits of flatmates Mark Corrigan (David Mitchell) and Jez Usbourne (Robert Webb) aired for nine series between 2003 and 2015. He also went on to perform as the character during DJ sets across the country after the show ended.
