Bhopal: A woman jail officer fell in love with a prison inmate and the couple, belonging to different religions, later tied the nuptial knot in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district.

Firoza Khatoon, an assistant superintendent at the Central Jail in Satna in Madhya Pradesh, got acquainted with Dharmveer Singh, an inmate in the prison who was serving life sentence after being convicted in a murder case.

Later the acquaintance developed into love which culminated in the interfaith marriage in Chhatarpur on May five.

Singh, a resident of Chandla in Chhatarpur district, was serving his sentence at the Satna Central Jail after being convicted in a case of murder of a councilor in 2007.

He was given the work as the warrant in-charge at the prison, bringing him in contact with the woman jailer.

He was released from the jail four years ago after serving 14 years in the prison following his reduction in the sentence on the ground of good conduct.

Sources in the prison said that the marriage was held on May five in Chhatarpur with Vedic rituals.

The bride’s family members however did not attend the marriage, sources said.

Local Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Rajbahadur Mishra and his wife performed the ritual of ‘Kanyadan’ at the wedding.
