Meet Eminem’s Ex-Wife, Kim Mathers, From Meeting As Young Teens At A House Party To Divorcing Twice

Eminem’s ex-wife, Kim Mathers, is in the headlines due to her mugshot going viral on social media. The news arrives after Mathers recently pleaded not guilty to charges associated with an incident that happened in February 2026. Kim was allegedly impaired when she allegedly hit a truck with her vehicle.

Entering a no-contest plea, Kim Mathers addressed charges of impaired operation and failing to stop after a crash. Notably, both of them are considered misdemeanor offenses. Kim will be sentenced in June 2026. The latest development has once again brought Kim and Eminem’s relationship into the spotlight. For the unversed, the duo was married between 1999 and 2006. Kim Mathers started pursuing a career of her own after her divorce

As mentioned, Eminem and Kim Mathers divorced in 2006. The split was settled outside the court. After the divorce was finalised, Kim’s attorney, Michael J. Smith, revealed that Kim was going back to college to study design. According to The Things, Mathers has also been passionate about writing children’s books. While speaking to PEOPLE, Michael J. Smith also opened up about Kim and Eminem’s divorce by saying:

“There was a lot of sadness about why this didn’t work out. They’ve been together for 17 years. They’re life-long friends, lovers, have been husband and wife, they’re raising children together. It’s not the end and it’s not over between them.”

Kim Mathers also has a sister named Dawn Scott. Born in 1975, the sisters spent their childhood in Michigan. However, their stepfather was allegedly addicted to alcohol. In 1988, Kim and Dawn ran away from their house to get freedom from their stepfather’s abuse, as stated by PEOPLE. They eventually arrived at a youth shelter near Detroit.

But Kim Mathers started battling other things after her divorce from Eminem. This included substance abuse and depression. She allegedly had some pills and rum in 2015 before she drove her vehicle into a utility pole. Kim was charged with DUI, and the accident also injured her toes and wrist. Mathers was also ordered to undergo drug and alcohol counselling along with probation. Kim recalled the experience in an interview on Mojo in the Morning, saying that she was drunk at that time. She further stated:

“I never expected to make it out of that alive. I apologised immediately. I did not even expect to make it through that, and I told [police] that I tried to do this on purpose.”

Kim Mathers and Eminem’s love story started many years ago, in 1988, at a party. The former was only 13 at that time. She and Eminem had an age gap of only two years, as Eminem was 15. Eminem opened up about his first meeting with Kim in his book, How It All Got Started, saying that Mathers was smoking when he saw her. While the duo started having an on-and-off relationship, Eminem introduced Kim to his mother, Debbie Nelson. Mathers eventually started to live with the family.

Debbie recalled the entire period in her book, My Son Marshall, My Name Eminem, saying that she did not doubt anything about Kim since she was 15 at that time. Although the pair tied the knot in 1999, the marriage started having problems from the beginning. Early reports claimed that the issues emerged due to Eminem’s rising popularity. The duo divorced in 2001 and exchanged vows once again, around five years later, in January 2006. The second wedding ceremony witnessed the presence of close friends and family members.

However, the marriage did not last long, for more than four months, as Eminem filed for divorce in April of the same year. Before they got married in 1999, Eminem and Kim Mathers had a child named Hailie Jade Scott in 1995. Following her first divorce in 2001, Kim Mathers was in a relationship with a man named Eric Hatter. In 2002, the pair also had a child named Stevie Laine Scott.
