The makers of Gatta Kusthi 2 unveiled the film’s first-look poster on Friday and confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel will hit theatres on July 3. Directed by Chella Ayyavu, the film brings back Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi as Veera and Keerthi, the beloved couple at the heart of the original.

Released in 2022, Gatta Kusthi struck a chord with audiences through its blend of humour, romance, and social commentary. The film followed a traditionally minded young man who marries a professional wrestler, only to have his assumptions challenged in unexpected ways. With its engaging performances and light-hearted treatment of gender dynamics, the film emerged as a crowd-pleaser.

The sequel is expected to continue directly from where the first instalment ended. In the closing moments of the original, Keerthi triumphs in an important wrestling bout, and she and Veera embrace a new chapter in life as parents to a baby girl. The next film appears set to explore how the couple navigates parenthood while retaining the spirited dynamic that made them so memorable.

Familiar faces and a new creative team

Several key supporting actors from the original are also returning, including Karunas, Munishkanth and Kaali Venkat, all of whom contributed significantly to the humour and warmth of the first film.

While the cast remains largely intact, Gatta Kusthi 2 introduces a new technical crew. Sean Roldan will compose the soundtrack, with Bhaskaran KM handling cinematography. Editing is by Barath Vikraman, while Jayachandran S takes charge of production design.

Vishnuu Vishal has several projects lined up. The actor was last seen in Aaryan and is currently awaiting the release of Irandu Vaanam, directed by Ram Kumar, who previously collaborated with him on Ratsasan. The film also stars Mamitha Baiju.

Aishwarya Lekshmi, who was recently seen in Thug Life directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan, has an exciting slate ahead, including the Telugu film SYG – Sambarala Yeti Gattu and the Malayalam project Aasha.

With its winning lead pair, returning ensemble cast and a release date now locked, Gatta Kusthi 2 looks set to bring back the humour and heart that made the original such a success.
