Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday said work on the J. Chokka Rao Devadula lift irrigation scheme (DLIS) must meet the December 2027 deadline, and instructed officials to acquire land to speed up the project completion. It was a priority project for the state government and was intended to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across 10 districts by lifting 38.16 tmc ft of water from the Godavari river.

He said the cost of the project, launched during 2004-05, rose from the estimated Rs 6,016 crore to nearly Rs 18,400 crore of which Rs 14,422 crore had been spent so far.
Pointing out that land acquisition had emerged was one of the biggest bottlenecks, he told officials that the balance 2,659 acres required for the project of the total 34,622 acres should be acquired without delay.
The meeting was attended among others by ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, and Danasari ‘Seethakka’ Anasuya, and Member of Parliament Balaram Naik, MLCs and MLAs including Kadiam Srihari, Mandula Samuel, Murali Naik, K.R.
