Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1
3. Silk Lace led throughout to win at this track first-up from a spell last month in a small field. That came after a Kembla Grange barrier trial victory. She also showed talent in her initial preparation to run second on debut at Queanbeyan and sixth at Hawkesbury in her only other two race starts. She should push forward again in this and take plenty of running down over the 900m. 1. Close To Midnight is first-up from a spell and on debut for a new stable. The former Victorian has a win and four placings from 10 starts and has had two trials before this return to racing. He has the class to give this a shake. 4. Bent As Hell won at this track over this distance in January and comes into this after a last-start second at Scone. 8. Valentino Prince ran an improved race when a last-start fourth here and could sneak into the placings.
How to play it: Silk Lace to win.
Race 2
3. Decalogue has been racing well since resuming, with two second placings from four starts, including his runner-up finish at Canterbury when last produced. He hasn’t been far away in his other two runs this campaign and this looks made to order for him to break through in. 4. Scoop The Pool ran fifth at Canterbury in the same race Decalogue contested and was a solid second at this track before that. 8. Aladdin’s Girl has finished third in each of her latest two starts at Kembla Grange and this track and can figure prominently again. 7. Think I Will wasn’t far away at his second start and can be placed.
How to play it: Decalogue to win.
Race 3
1. Clanwilliam has been just behind the placings in two city starts either side of a close second at this track when second-up from a spell. His form looks sound for this event and he can break through. 7. Solid has been placed in both runs since resuming and should give plenty of cheek again. 8. Sur Nova Centauri is a former UK galloper that has been placed in all three starts and resumes after two solid trials. 11. Dawn Or Dusk is a last start placegetter here that has claims.
How to play it: Clanwilliam to win.
Race 4
8. Reschs Milk is a Farnan filly on debut and has been fitted for this with three trials, finishing fourth on the Beaumont track when beaten 1.5 lengths in the latest. She’s drawn well and can start her career with a win. 6. Oh My Oh My is also on debut and has had a number of trials and can also make an impact from the good barrier. 3. Sir Phil has trialled twice leading into his debut and makes solid appeal. 1. Funshow is yet to miss a place from four starts and warrants thought.
How to play it: Reschs Milk to win.
Race 5
18. Sister Daae is resuming from a spell, but she is a city winner, and her sole victory was on the Kensington track at Randwick when first-up from a spell. She’s primed for this after two trials and is drawn ideally. 8. Maquisa has been placed in each of her latest three starts and she has the talent to make an impact again in this company. 6. Rosa Incanta won at this track and can improve on a last start failure. 4. Jacob’s Ladder ran well when resuming before failing last time out.
How to play it: Sister Daae each way.
Race 6
5. Piccaderro did the job well to score a last-start win at Quirindi when he settled close to the speed and was strong to the line. He only needs to run up to that effort to be hard to hold out again. 9. Stellar Rhonda has had two starts back from a spell and won both in good style. She looms as hardest to beat. 12. Tanglewood Jimmy has been racing well and warrants respect. 11. Off The Scale won at Taree two starts ago and has claims.
How to play it: Piccaderro each way.
Race 7
5. Tuscany has had three starts back from a spell. He ran second first-up on the Beaumont track here, then won at this track by a good margin before a narrow second on the Kensington track at Randwick and only needs to maintain that form to be rated the one to beat. 3. Three Arrows ran third at this track on debut last October before backing it up with two straight wins at this track and then at Hawkesbury before being spelled. He has plenty of upside and has had two trials to prepare for this. 4. Chatterley charged to the line late to arrive in time to score a last-start win at this track and only needs to overcome a wide gate to be hard to beat again. 10. Attractiveness is lightly raced with a good record and resumes here after two trials. She bears close watching.
How to play it: Tuscany to win.
