The world of Spider-Noir may be drenched in shadows and mystery. But behind the scenes, it was laughter that set the tone for Brendan Gleeson and Nicolas Cage. During an exclusive interaction with Filmfare, Gleeson opened up about his very first memory of working with Cage on the much-anticipated series. And according to the actor, it involved spider-like gestures, a dramatic landing and an uncontrollable fit of laughter.
Recalling their first scene together, Gleeson shared, “Well, the first thing that happened was he landed in the car. If you’ve seen the opening, he lands in my car. We have this scene together.”
The actor revealed that Cage immediately began experimenting with the physicality of the character and leaned into the eccentric and comic-book-inspired nature of the world. “My first recollection is that he was trying some stuff with his gestures. He was doing many spider-like gestures,” Gleeson said.
What followed, however, was a moment that instantly broke the ice between the two actors. “At the end of it, when we heard the ‘cut,’ both of us just burst out laughing. There was an element of larger-than-life cartoon. And oddness of the whole world was quite exciting,” he recalled.
For Gleeson, that moment defined the energy of the project from the very beginning. “That honestly is my first memory, that the two of us said, ‘This is going to be great fun. This is going to be a lot of fun.'”
