A Ricky Martin concert in Montenegro faced an ‘abrupt interruption’ when a fan sprayed a tear gas canister towards the singer, forcing him to leave the stage
Ricky Martin was forced to halt a concert and rush to safety after a fan discharged a tear gas canister. The singer, who was performing in Montenegro on 21 May, is “safe”, his team have said.
His publicist, Róndine Alcalá, posted a statement on Instagram, where she explained what happened to the Livin’ La Vida Loca singer.
She said: “During Ricky Martin’s concert tonight in Montenegro – where the artist was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour – an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance.”

She added that Martin and the team left the stage “immediately” as a “precautionary measure”, while security and the local authorities contained the situation and took care of the concert-goers near the gas canister.
Alcalá also said the musician was determined to that show go on: “Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfil his commitment to fans.”
Concluding her statement, the publicist said in the caption: “Ricky Martin and his team are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro.”
Martin is currently touring eight countries across Europe as part of his world tour. He is set to continue his run of performances in mid-June, where he will perform in Moldova, Serbia, Croatia and Italy before heading to Switzerland for the Pully Live Festival. After the festival, he will play in Germany, the Czech Republic, before returning to the USA for a festival in Illinois in August.
The Puerto Rican singer has been on the road since he performed with Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February. Benito enlisted a number of famous faces to make cameos in his performance, which served as a love letter to Puerto Rico.
As well as Martin, Bad Bunny was joined by Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal. Martin’s cameo came just after Lady Gaga sang her song Die With A Smile and he performed an acoustic version of Bad Bunny’s Lo Que Le Paso A Hawaii.
Martin started his tour in South America, where he was joined by his teenage sons, 17-year-old twins Valentino and Matteo. The pair were seen in matching outfits as they stepped off a private plane with their father in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The singer also has a daughter, seven year-old Lucia, and another son, six year-old Renn, with his ex husband Jwan Yosef. When accepting the Latin Icon Award at the 2025 VMAs, he dedicated it to his children. “Everything I do, I do with you in my mind and in my heart.”
