Arjun Das and Anna Ben’s upcoming Tamil crime comedy Con City is finally gearing up for its theatrical release. The makers on Thursday unveiled a fresh poster from the film and confirmed that the entertainer will hit cinemas on June 26. Directed by debutant Harish Durairaj, the film promises a blend of comedy, crime and emotional family drama set against the backdrop of urban survival and sudden fortune.

A lightning strike changes everything

The buzz around Con City first began when its title teaser was released earlier this year. The teaser introduced audiences to an unusual premise that instantly caught attention online. Arjun Das plays a man struggling to make ends meet when an unexpected accident involving a lightning strike seemingly alters the fate of his receipt printer. Instead of printing bills, the machine suddenly starts producing Rs 500 currency notes.

What initially appears to be a miracle quickly transforms into a chaotic situation. The teaser showed Anna Ben, Yogi Babu and veteran actor Vadivukkarasi as members of a financially troubled family who slowly discover the unbelievable truth. As each family member realises the machine’s potential, excitement takes over and dreams of escaping poverty begin to feel real.

However, the story appears to move beyond simple wish fulfilment. Once word about the mysterious money-making machine spreads, the situation spirals out of control. Public frenzy, greed and the consequences of sudden wealth seem set to drive the narrative into unpredictable territory. Going by the teaser and promotional material, Con City aims to combine absurd humour with social commentary on money, desperation and survival in a fast-moving city environment.

Packed cast and strong technical team

Apart from Arjun Das and Anna Ben, the film features a massive ensemble cast that includes Yogi Babu, Vadivukkarasi, Akhilan, Nanda Gopal, VTV Ganesh, Dheepa Ramanujam, Radha Ravi, Arul Doss, Shaji Chen, Thambi Ramaiah, Ramesh Thilak, Baradwaj Rangan, Imman Annachi, Madan Dakshinamoorthy, Ponvannan, Ragu Esaki and Sathanand among others.

The makers had earlier stated that Con City is designed as a complete family entertainer that can connect with audiences across age groups. While the film operates within the crime comedy genre, they also hinted at emotional layers rooted in the struggles of middle class life. The narrative is expected to explore how ordinary people react when confronted with extraordinary temptation and opportunity.

The film is currently in its post-production stage. On the technical front, Con City boasts an interesting lineup of talent. The music has been composed by Sean Roldan, whose work in emotionally driven films has earned him a strong following. Cinematography is handled by Aravind Viswanathan, while editing is by Arulmoses A. Raj Kamal serves as the art director for the project.

Con City is produced by Power House Pictures in their maiden production venture, in association with M&M Movie Makers and Klout Studios. The film will not only release in Tamil but will also have a Telugu release, expanding its reach across southern markets.

For Arjun Das, the project marks yet another attempt at exploring unconventional commercial cinema after becoming popular for his intense screen presence and distinctive voice. Anna Ben, meanwhile, continues to build an interesting filmography that balances content-driven cinema with mainstream appeal.

With a bizarre premise, a large ensemble cast and a comic crime setup driven by a magical twist, Con City is shaping up to be one of the more unusual Tamil releases of the season.
