Scarlett Moffatt shares her joy at expecting a brother for son Jude and explains why fiancé Scott Dobinson will be a stay-at-home dad.
Scarlett Moffatt beams as she exclusively reveals the news fans have been dying to know since she first announced her pregnancy. “I was born to be a boy mum,” she says.
The former Gogglebox star, who already has son Jude with her partner Scott Dobinson, is glowing as she shares the delightful news that she is expecting a second boy with us, just days after the family went for a gender reveal scan.
To say Scarlett is happy is an understatement. “I’m so excited,” she says, giddy at the thought of her beloved Jude having a little brother. “All my family and friends knew I wanted another boy.
“Of course it would’ve been wonderful to have had a girl – a healthy baby is all that matters – but my preference was a boy, to give Jude a brother. I’m just so happy for him. He’s got someone to share his life with now.”

Scarlett, 35, went for the scan with Jude and Scott and the trio held hands while the sonographer delivered the news.
“We were all so excited, I couldn’t stop smiling,” she says. “We always wanted to find out the gender. I wish I could be one of those people that wait until the big day, but I can’t. I like to know where I’m at. And now it’s great because we can start thinking of names and stuff. I also think it’s helpful for Jude to call him a baby boy. He understands it more now.”
Scarlett is not in the slightest bit fazed about the chaos that can come with having two sons. “I like the spontaneity of boys,” she says. “That feeling of, is he gonna jump off this slide? I think I’m made for that type of danger. My friends have little girls and they’re so cute, having their little tea parties and stuff and I’m all for that… but I love the rough and tumble boys bring.”
You’d think having a second son would mean Scarlett and Scott have the nursery all set up and ready to go with Jude’s old stuff. But she admits they’re having to start from scratch. After suffering a “soul-destroying” miscarriage with her second pregnancy last year, Scarlett admitted she was so devastated she thought about stopping trying for any more children.
Speaking in December she said, “I was lying in bed with Scott one day and I said, ‘I just don’t think I can handle the heartbreak any more. I think we should stop. We’ve got Jude, so let’s enjoy him.’” As a result, Scarlett gave her baby furniture to friends and the charity shop.
“The heartache, it was just too much,” she says now. “You put your happiness on hold every month, waiting for the pregnancy test. I just said to Scott we should stop trying. So I honestly didn’t think this was going to happen again. We still have a pram, but we got rid of everything else.”
After vowing to put less pressure on themselves, the pair were overjoyed to learn they were expecting again just three weeks later. Scarlett says, “It was amazing. But it means when it comes to the nursery, we’re starting again – but we’re already thinking about making it fair.”
Scarlett and Scott will now change things around in their County Durham home, so Jude – who turns three in June – and the baby both get the same-sized space to sleep in. “I don’t want anyone growing up worrying about favouritism,” she says.
Scarlett is desperate to make sure Jude doesn’t feel pushed aside by the new baby, a relatable worry for second-time mums.
“One thing I just love about Jude is how loving he is,” she says. “But I do have a feeling that at some point he’s going to ask, ‘When is the baby going back?’ How do you explain to a little toddler that this new baby is going to be sticking around? I just have to make sure he doesn’t feel left out. I’m watching a lot of TikToks on how to stop him from feeling like that.”
While it’s an understandable concern, Scarlett has a supportive village around her to navigate her next chapter, including her mum and dad, Betty and Mark, and Scott’s parents.
“Oh my God, it’s so lovely for them. Mam and Dad had two girls, so for them having boys is great. Dad’s already so excited to take them to the football. And Scott’s mum and dad are amazing too. I see where he gets his loveliness from.”
Indeed, Scarlett lights up when talking about former policeman Scott, who she first met more than 15 years ago. A chance meeting when she called 999 years later sparked a romance between the pair.
“If there’s one thing I’ve got right in this world, it’s picking Scott to be the father of my children,” she says. “He looks after us all. I’m not gonna lie, this pregnancy has been intense. I’ve been quite sick and Scott has been amazing.
“It’s been a lot, but I’m actually grateful. Now I know what morning sickness is like, I’ve experienced it. Yes, it’s awful, but what a privilege to get to go through it, to go through all of this again.”
One of the more surreal parts of her pregnancy was watching herself on I’m A Celebrity: South Africa when it aired last month. The show was recorded last August and Scarlett watched it with Jude on her lap and the new baby in her belly.
“People were asking why I was competing in tasks when I was pregnant. They couldn’t grasp that it was pre-recorded,” she says. “But watching it back I felt so strong and so proud. It’s a lot harder than it looks.”
Scarlett has taken some great friendships away from the experience. “I went to Ashley Roberts’ birthday, we speak every day on the phone,” she says. “Can you believe it? She’s a Pussycat Doll, she’s pretty busy and the fact she makes time for us is lovely.
“Sir Mo Farah is another wonderful soul. I know this sounds deep, but it genuinely changed my life meeting him. His life and how he came to England is so heartbreaking and to see the strength and positivity he has, it’s inspiring.”
Scarlett took two years off work after Jude’s birth but is unsure if she’ll do the same this time. After her second stint in the jungle, the world is her oyster and with another top secret show currently being filmed, she’s in no hurry to slow down.
She says, “Scott’s going to take a bit of a career break with number two, so I feel really privileged that we get to be in a position where we all get to be together as a family. Scott will be home with them, or their grandparents, so the boys will always be with someone who loves them.
“This industry is fickle but I was so lucky that after being off with Jude I got the Strictly Christmas special and I’m A Celebrity . I don’t want to push my luck and take too long off this time. I might not get that lucky again.”
We ask if Scarlett feels like her family will be complete with the arrival of her little boy. “Honestly? If the world allows me another one, I would be really grateful for that,” she says, “I’d be thrilled if we had a load of kids. I’m so grateful for what we have, but the more the merrier!”
