If industry sources are to be believed, megastar Chiranjeevi is planning to hold a second round of discussions with producers and exhibitors today or tomorrow to resolve the ongoing percentage-sharing issue in Telangana.
“All stakeholders are now waiting for his call and confirmation of the meeting time,” said a source close to the developments. According to insiders, Chiranjeevi is keen to find a solution before May 30 and has reportedly urged both producers and exhibitors to soften their stand and arrive at an amicable settlement.
During his earlier meeting held a few days ago, Chiranjeevi is said to have patiently heard the concerns of both producers and exhibitors regarding the long-running dispute between the rental and percentage-sharing systems.
“He understood the concerns and financial pressures faced by both sides. Telangana has more than 300 single-screen theatres, and any sudden shift from the rental model to the percentage system could impact revenues and operational stability,” the source explained.
The actor is also believed to be gathering independent feedback through his own industry contacts before making any recommendations.
While producers are reportedly willing to consider implementing the percentage-sharing model after June 30, exhibitors are pushing for it to begin from the release of Peddi itself, arguing that the demand has been pending for several years.
“The discussions are mainly about whether theatres should receive a fixed amount or a certain percentage as a share. Chiranjeevi wants to ensure that both sides are protected and is personally investing time to help resolve the matter,” the source added.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Chiranjeevi has commenced work on his 158th film with director K. S. Ravindra, aiming to recreate the commercial success of their earlier blockbuster Waltair Veerayya.
