Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday held discussions with Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, on expediting the implementation of the conglomerate’s proposed projects in the State involving investments of over Rs 1 lakh crore.
At a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan the two sides reviewed the progress of Vedanta’s key projects, including a 6 MTPA alumina refinery in Rayagada, a 3 MTPA aluminium smelter and a 6,000 MW power plant in Dhenkanal, besides a downstream aluminium park and integrated coal and bauxite operations.
The Chief Minister said the progress of Vedanta’s projects would be reviewed every 15 days to ensure timely execution and commencement of work as scheduled.
“With investments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore, Vedanta has emerged as one of the largest investors in Odisha. These projects will create massive employment opportunities for the youth and accelerate Odisha’s journey towards becoming a 500-billion-dollar economy by 2036,” Majhi said.
According to the state government, land allocation for the proposed power plant, aluminium smelter and alumina refinery has already been completed, while supporting infrastructure development is progressing steadily. Vedanta’s new coal block is also expected to become operational this year. In addition, the Ministry of Railways has approved a proposed rail link near the company’s upcoming bauxite mine.
The proposed downstream aluminium park near the smelter unit is expected to manufacture advanced aluminium products catering to sectors such as aerospace, electric vehicles and defence. The projects are also projected to spur the growth of thousands of MSMEs across the State.
Agarwal said the investments would significantly transform Odisha’s industrial landscape by generating large-scale employment and strengthening local enterprises.
“Odisha is poised to emerge as a global aluminium hub. Vedanta remains committed to partnering the state in its long-term growth and industrial expansion,” he said, while thanking the State government for its support.
The meeting was attended by industries additional chief secretary Hemant Sharma, Chief Minister’s additional chief secretary Saswat Mishra, revenue additional chief secretary Dr Arabinda Padhee, and senior Vedanta officials.
