Kadapa: Several villages in Kadapa district were left in darkness on Thursday night following a sudden spell of strong winds and heavy rain that disrupted power supply in several areas.
According to reports, electric poles were uprooted in many areas due to the gusty winds, leading to prolonged outages. Power supply remained disrupted for several hours, with many villages continuing to face blackout even past 11 pm.
Areas including Proddatur, Muddanur, Kamalapuram and Maidukur were among the worst affected, where authorities reportedly switched off power as a precautionary measure during the downpour.
In Muddanur, heavy rain led to the uprooting of large trees. Locals said a major mishap was averted as no one was present at the spot when the trees collapsed.
Electricity officials said restoration work was under way but could not specify when supply would be fully resumed, citing the extent of damage caused by the storm.
Residents expressed concern over the prolonged outages, as large parts of the district remained without power late into the night.
