James Van Der Beek’s ex-wife Heather McComb, who was married to the Dawson’s Creek actor from 2003 until 2010, has announced she has tied the knot with her longterm boyfriend, months on from her ex-husband’s death.
Taking to social media, Heather shared snaps of her wedding, revealing to fans that she had wed Scott Michael Campbell in a ceremony in Missoula, Montana.
“Yesterday @scottmichaelcampbell and I under the covenant of God got officially married by my beautiful sister @essence_says surround by the people we love most in the world in our most favourite city Missoula, Montana,” she wrote.
“Our hearts are full and humbled by all of the love that we were surrounded by. God is so good. Thank you to all of our family and friends who travelled from all over the country to be with us. Thank you Jesus the way maker miracle worker!
“You all made it so special and a truly magical weekend that we will never forget. We are sitting here counting our many blessings. Thank you to everyone who made this so special for us!”
Commenters shared their delight for the star, with singer Debbie Gibson sharing: “A match made in heaven ! So happy for you both.”
Actor Johnny Whitworth commented: “Love everything about this because you don’t have to know any of it to see the love and joy. Congrats”. Full House actress Candace Bure added: “Congratulations.”
The celebration comes months on from the death of Heather’s first husband, who was on good terms with following their split in 2009 and subsequent divorce a year later. The couple reportedly met through Heather’s sister Jennifer McComb, who guest starred in Dawson’s Creek.
In 2010, James married business consultant Kimberly Brook and the couple had six children together. Heather mentioned his second wife and their children together in the public tribute she penned to her ex after he died.
Part of her lengthy post read: ” I am heartbroken over the loss of beloved James. I am especially heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly, his beautiful children and his amazing family, Jim, Jared, Juliana and all of his family and friends who I know he loved deeply.
“This picture is from my 21st birthday. Dawsons Creek hadn’t even aired yet. This is how I will always see James innocent, kind and pure of heart. What a journey we shared over the years. I sit here in immense gratitude for the special connection, friendship and love that James and I shared that has endured through decades.”
He had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer on August 31, 2023 and decided to go public with his diagnosis in November 2024. Announcing his death on behalf of the family, James’ wife, Kimberly, said: “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.
“There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
