With exactly a month left before Gatta Kusthi 2 arrives in theatres, the film has crossed another important stage in production. Actor Vishnuu Vishal has completed dubbing for his portions in the much-anticipated sequel, bringing the project a step closer to release.

The actor, who also co-produces the film through his banner Vishnu Vishal Studioz alongside Ishari K Ganesh’s Vels Film International, shared the update as post-production work continues at full pace. The development signals that the makers are firmly on track for the film’s scheduled theatrical release on July 3.

Gatta Kusthi 2 serves as a follow-up to the 2022 sports comedy drama that won praise for blending humour, family dynamics and conversations around gender roles. Directed by Chella Ayyavu, the original film revolved around Veera, a traditionally minded young man whose worldview is challenged after marrying a professional wrestler.

The sequel brings back several familiar faces from the first installment, ensuring continuity for fans who connected with the characters and their relationships.

Familiar faces return, new additions join the franchise

Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi reprise their roles as Veera and Keerthi, the couple whose unconventional marriage formed the emotional core of the original film.

Several supporting actors from the first installment are also returning. Kaali Venkat once again plays Sattam, while Karunaas reprises his role as Veera’s beloved “Mama”. Munishkanth returns as the protagonist’s “Chitappa” or uncle. Lizie Antony, Gajaraj and Sreeja Ravi are also back as members of the extended family, playing Athai, Appa and Amma respectively.

The sequel also introduces a number of fresh additions to the cast. Veteran actor Ramya Krishnan has joined the project as Raja Rajeshwari, while comedian Yogi Babu will be seen as Balbir Singh. Karunakaran, Mokksha, and child actor Zara Zyanna are among the other notable names added to the ensemble.

While the makers have chosen to keep the storyline under wraps, the film is expected to continue from where the first chapter concluded. The climax of Gatta Kusthi saw Keerthi emerge victorious in a wrestling match, while she and Veera embraced a new chapter in life as parents to a baby girl.

That ending leaves several possibilities for the sequel, particularly in exploring how the couple navigates parenthood while balancing their contrasting personalities and ambitions.

Apart from the cast, Gatta Kusthi 2 also features a largely refreshed technical team. Composer Sean Roldan has come on board to handle the music, while Bhaskaran KM serves as cinematographer. Editing is being overseen by Barath Vikraman, with Jayachandran S taking charge as art director.

The first film, which was released in Tamil and Telugu, found appreciation for presenting a mainstream entertainer that combined comedy with themes of equality and mutual respect within relationships. Naturally, expectations are high for the sequel to build upon that foundation while expanding the scope of the story.

With Vishnuu Vishal now completing dubbing and post-production progressing steadily, Gatta Kusthi 2 appears to be entering its final phase before meeting audiences on the big screen. Whether the sequel can recreate the charm of its predecessor remains to be seen, but the countdown to July 3 has officially begun.
