Justin Baldoni’s potential new role has been revealed following his legal row with Blake Lively, which ended in the pair settling before their case went to trial
Justin Baldoni’s potential new advocacy role has been revealed following his legal row with Blake Lively. Lively and Baldoni ended their lawsuit last month, just weeks before the pair were due to face a trial. Lively had claimed that Baldoni conspired with publicists to pre-emptively destroy her reputation after she privately accused him of sexually harassing her on the movie set of It Ends With Us and a very public legal battle ensued.
Now, Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman has revealed that the actor may take on an advocacy role. Freedman told TMZ that Baldoni was considering “a speaker for people who have been wrongfully accused of something, and really beaten up by a power dynamic”.
Lively and Baldoni settled last month. The pair issued a joint statement via their lawyers, which read: “Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors — and all survivors — is a goal that we stand behind.
“It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.” The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
In their joint statement, the parties said they recognise that Lively’s concerns “deserved to be heard” and that they “remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments.”
“The end product — the movie It Ends With Us — is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life,” they added. The judge, in the decision tossing out the sexual harassment claims, acknowledged the complexity of the matter.
They had noted that creative artists “must have some amount of space to experiment within the bounds of an agreed script without fear of being held liable for sexual harassment.”
In the lawsuit filed by Baldoni, he said the purpose was to “retaliate against Ms. Lively by battering her image, harming her businesses, and causing her family severe emotional harm.” Baldoni’s lawyers had claimed it was Lively who was strategically manipulating Baldoni’s public image, and had been leveraging help from her famous friends.
According to PR expert Mayah Riaz, neither of the Hollywood stars came out on top: “I’d say that from a PR perspective, this settlement feels like it’s less like a victory lap and more like a mutual surrender.
“Neither Blake nor Justin comes out of this completely unscathed, but both have clearly realised that dragging this through a very public trial would have caused even deeper reputational damage.”
