Hyderabad: BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy on Tuesday called for a broad-based public movement to press the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to grant associate membership to the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA), of which he is a patron. Speaking at a round‑table conference of stakeholders here, he said recognition was essential for taking cricket to the districts.

The conference brought together former women cricketers, district representatives, sports activists and administrators to review TCA’s decade‑long work. TCA general secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy outlined the association’s organisational growth, grassroots initiatives, district expansion and legal battles fought to secure space for Telangana players.

Vishweshwar Reddy criticised the current cricket administration for concentrating power in Hyderabad and neglecting talent from other regions. He highlighted allegations of corruption, irregularities and administrative failures that, he said, have weakened confidence in the existing system and blocked pathways for rural cricketers to advance.

“The future of Telangana cricket cannot remain hostage to a system that fails to identify and promote talent from every corner of the state,” he said, urging the BCCI to seriously consider the TCA’s claim given its sustained grassroots work.

Calling for public mobilisation beyond courtrooms, Konda asked stakeholders to build awareness, harness social media and create collective pressure to secure justice for Telangana cricketers. Activist Vithal echoed the appeal, drawing parallels with the statehood movement and urging democratic campaigns to challenge corruption in cricket administration.
