New Delhi: The Centre has initiated a major administrative shake-up in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) amid mounting criticism over the newly introduced Online Screen Marking (OSM) system used for evaluating Class 12 examination answer scripts this year.
In a swift move, the government transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Board Secretary Himanshu Gupta, signaling its seriousness in addressing concerns surrounding the digital assessment process. The Centre has also constituted a high-level committee to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the implementation of the system and the complaints raised by students and stakeholders.
Before his transfer, Rahul Singh was responsible for the overall administration and functioning of the CBSE, while Himanshu Gupta oversaw key areas including legal affairs, audits, and public relations.
The controversy has also drawn the attention of Parliament. Taking note of the widespread grievances reported by students, a parliamentary panel summoned School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and outgoing CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh to appear before it. The officials have been asked to explain the rollout of the Online Screen Marking system and respond to concerns regarding its impact on the evaluation process.
