Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, with Ibrahima Konate also expected to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that Dumfries will join Madrid, who are set to trigger his €20million release clause.
Meanwhile, Konate is reported to have reached a verbal agreement to sign for Madrid, after the France centre-back failed to come to terms on a new deal with Liverpool.
Konate’s arrival is contingent on the outcome of Madrid’s presidential elections on June 7. If, as expected, Florentino Perez is re-elected, then Konate will become a Madrid player.
Dumfries has made 207 appearances for Inter since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2021.
He has scored 27 goals for the Nerazzurri, with Dumfries’ ability to play right-back and on the right side of midfield surely a big part of his appeal to Madrid and incoming coach Jose Mourinho, who will be appointed for a second spell in charge should Perez win the election.
Inter are expected to pursue Atalanta’s Marco Palestra to fill the void left by Netherlands international Dumfries.
Konate has long since been linked with Madrid, but indicated in April that he was close to signing fresh terms with Liverpool.
The expectation of a renewal with the Reds did not come to pass, and the 27-year-old will boost Madrid’s options at the heart of their defence, though he will have plenty of competition for playing time, with Dean Huijsen, Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and Raul Asencio the other options at centre-back for Los Blancos.
