Anna Kepner’s Murder Case, Timothy Hudson Has Surrendered Himself To U.S. Marshals Ahead Of Trial

Anna Kepner’s murder case has grabbed a lot of attention over the last few weeks. The 16-year-old died on a cruise ship in November 2025, and her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, has been charged with murder and sexual assault. Notably, Timothy was not arrested and instead ordered to stay with a family member before his trial starts in September 2026. The prosecutors have still tried their best to ensure that Timothy is taken into custody until the trial.

Timothy Hudson has surrendered to the authorities before his trial

Timothy Hudson was initially charged as a minor in February 2026 when he appeared in court. Notably, he was not allowed to post bail. While the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida stated that he should be brought into custody, there was a lack of sufficient proof needed by the Juvenile Detention Act to execute the order.

On June 15, 2026, Timothy Hudson surrendered to the U.S. Marshals. The new legal documents have revealed that Judge Edwin Torres told him to surrender after prosecutors submitted new evidence to cancel his release before the trial. The judge issued an order in which he said that the prosecution’s matter related to a “forcible rape” cannot be ignored.

Moreover, the case has displayed a lack of remorse in the accused, which has increased the possibility that Timothy might snap for some reason. The judge addressed the fact that Timothy is dangerous to everyone else and himself at the same time, even if the caretakers are trying to ensure that everything stays normal. The judge revealed the reason for the new order, stating that the accused will appear as an adult for the trial instead of being a teenager.

Judge Edwin Torres refused to send Timothy Hudson to prison a few weeks ago

While the latest order by Judge Edwin Torres is creating headlines, he previously refused to jail Timothy Hudson in May 2026. Notably, Hudson was living with his uncle at that time, and while he was indicted as an adult in April 2026, there was a chance that he might be sent to prison before the trial. Judge Edwin Torres said at that time that the situation would have been different if the age of the accused had been 20 years old. He further stated:

“The presumption would be we were just not going to take that chance. This is a different animal.”

Judge Edwin Torres even addressed the fact that it will be hard for Timothy Hudson’s family members to meet him if he is detained in Miami-Dade County. On the other hand, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Alejandra Lopez, claimed that Timothy was dangerous to anyone where he was staying, adding that two minors were living near the place.

However, Timothy’s attorney, Evan Kuhl, dismissed Alejandra’s allegations, stating that his client has followed the conditions related to his release without breaking the rules. For the unversed, Timothy had to be accompanied by his aunt or uncle while leaving home, alongside being electronically monitored at the same time.
